Air Pollution in China

If you live in a major city in China, you can go days or even weeks without seeing the sun. Imagine living in a city where the smog is so dense that it looks like it’s dusk all day. Living in a large city in China is like smoking two packs of cigarettes per day. Chinese were wearing masks in China long before Covid in an attempt to limit exposure to air pollution. Since the American embassy in China started publishing air pollution data, China has found it more difficult to lie about air pollution to its citizens and in the media (all of which is controlled by the Chinese government).  One of the most common reasons cited for wealthy Chinese leaving the country is air and water pollution.

Despite making some advances in wind, solar, and electrification, China still burns as much coal as the rest of the world combined.  China is also exporting this dirty technology to the developing world.

Something you will never hear in China, open the windows so we can let in some fresh air.  Of course the ruling class live and work in buildings with industrial grade air filters. This causes the lower classes in China to breathe a disproportionate amount of the polluted air.
